For an unexpected holiday gift, here's a way to make your life a little more artistic while supporting the local art scene.

Chad Mount, 41, of Oklahoma City, has created a line of iPhone cases adorned with images of his artwork.

The artist, who paints under the name Tribalbot in honor of a crew of robot characters he created early in his career, said he stumbled upon the idea of creating the cases as a way to promote his art by combining his painting, macro photography and marketing talents.

“Instead of pulling out the iPhone and going through a photo album to show people my work, I can just pull out the iPhone,” Mount said. It's a handy tool for him as an artist to get his art and name out there, while keeping his art accessible and affordable.

He's recently added throw pillows to his unusual choices of canvases. He uses an online service to print the iPhone cases and throw pillows and says he only makes a couple bucks with each sale. But he likes seeing his artwork in the hands of patrons.

Mount is currently renovating a 4,000 square-foot studio space in the basement of the Triangle Plaza building in the Midtown district that in the '80s was The Bowery club and later was rave clubs Raven and Velvet Underground. Mount also is helping promote other artists in Oklahoma City through “Art Revolves,” a project he started in the spring. Through the project, he will work with local restaurants and other venues to curate art shows featuring local up-and-coming artists.

“It's often easier for me to connect the dots for other people and promote their awesomeness,” Mount said.
