PATRIOTIC PARTY
Who: Ann Romney, wife of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, former First Lady Laura Bush and Gov. Mary Fallin spoke in front of an outdoor podium at the private fundraiser for Mitt Romney in the home of Judy and Tom Love. It was one of only two fundraisers that Bush attended nationwide, according to an Associated Press report. Gov. Fallin introduced Bush, who in turn introduced Romney.
What: Organizer Terry Neese, national board member, Women for Romney, noted that Ann Romney is chairman of Women for Romney; Lynn Cheney and Laura Bush are honorary co-chairmen. There are 15 national board members all across the country.
Where: The table at the Love home had patriotic characters, red, white and blue Uncle Sams with American flags for decorations, along with vases of red roses. Many of the guests wore American flag pins.
Why: In talking about the nomination of her husband, Ann Romney said, “It is an honor and a blessing to be involved.” In speaking about the fundraising effort she noted, “This is for America, so we're very, very grateful to you all.”
How: At 5 p.m. there was a 30-minute private meeting with Romney and Bush for Steering Committee members, and then they and the other donors lined up for special pictures with the honorees.
HONORING MICHELLE AND JEREMY
Party: Silvia and Steve Payne honored engaged couple Michelle Durrett and Jeremy Whitlow at a couple's miscellaneous shower and cocktail party.
Flowers: Roses, lilies and hydrangeas were in the flower bouquets for the table.
Partygoers: Hilarie and Kevin Blaney, Carolyn and Matt Durrett, Barbara and Bill Durrett, Jenna Johnston, Jackie and Don Durrett, Addison Durrett, Druanne and David Durrett, Lyle Clark, Lou and Jim Morris, Parker Durrett, Lynn and Brad Fielding, Brenda and Tom McDaniel, Suzie Hupfeld, Barbara Eskridge.
Wedding: The wedding is this month.
INAUGURATION BRUNCH
Who: Oklahoma Christian University President John deSteiguer and his wife, Darla, were honorees at an Inauguration Brunch held in OC's Gaylord University Center. Community leaders were among the guests.
Program: On the program were Lee Allan Smith and Tom Ward. State Treasurer Ken Miller read a proclamation from Gov. Mary Fallin and Rep. Randy Grau presented a state flag that flew over the state Capitol on May 1 (President deSteiguer's first day as president). Jose Freede attended the brunch and later led the Pledge of Allegiance at the installation ceremony.
Medallions: At the brunch Presidential Medallions were given to past presidents Terry Johnson, Alfred Branch and Mike O'Neal.
Decor: Bouquets of red roses decorated the tables and an ice sculpture filled with shrimp featured the Inauguration Seal.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY STEVE AND WILSON
Birthday: A dual birthday party honored Steve Kerr and Wilson Kerr, father and son. It was at the Photo Arts Studio in Oklahoma City's Plaza District.
Menu: A variety of food from the Good Egg Group and Uptown Market was served to the 60 people, including friends and family members from the East and West coasts. There was also a group of men from Delta Upsilon Fraternity at the University of Oklahoma.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JANE
Wine and cheese: Jane Thompson was the honoree at a 60th birthday celebration given by Sherry Beasley, Judy Keeton, Judy Love, Beverly Funke, Lana Lopez and Lou Morris in the Love home.
Table: The dining room table was filled with cheese spreads, cheese tortes, crackers and breads and trays of vegetables. There were also brownies, fruit tarts and colorful, iced birthday cake cookies. White roses were set in crystal vases.
Seen: Wendy French, Hilarie Blaney, Anne Stone, Pam Shdeed, Gennie Johnson, Brenda McDaniel, Debby Dudman, Linda Garrett, Barbara Brou, Cheryl Hewett, Mary Price, Janie Axton and Anne Gray.
NEW OFFICERS
Event: Members of the Greater Oklahoma City Alumnae Panhellenic Association met and named new officers. They are Lisa Blackburn, president; Millonn Lilly, vice president; Suzanne Bockus, secretary; Michelle Nisbett, treasurer; Amy Edwards, historian, and Suzy Smith, member-at-large parliamentarian.
Projects: This group has members from 17 metro area national sorority alumnae groups and they host annual events such as Panhellenic Women of the Year Luncheon and the Spring Tea. They also provide scholarships.
